The short answer. An eldercare helper is a trained domestic helper who supports an elderly person at home with daily living, mobility, meals, medication reminders and companionship. She is not a nurse, but for most families she provides the steady, caring day-to-day help that lets a loved one age comfortably at home. We match you with helpers who have genuine elderly-care experience, and we tell you honestly when a situation needs more than a helper can give.

What an eldercare helper does

Everyday care that keeps a loved one comfortable at home

A good eldercare helper does far more than housework. She becomes part of your parent's daily routine, helping with the small things that make ageing at home safe and dignified. The right match depends on your loved one's needs, which is why we take time to understand them before suggesting anyone.

Mobility and safety

Helping with walking, transfers and moving around the home to prevent falls.

Personal care

Support with grooming, dressing, bathing and hygiene, handled with patience and respect.

Meals and diet

Preparing nutritious meals that suit dietary needs and any conditions your doctor has flagged.

Medication reminders

Reminding and helping your loved one take medication on the schedule your doctor sets.

Companionship

Conversation, activities and a steady presence that eases the loneliness many seniors feel.

Appointments and home

Accompanying to medical appointments and keeping the living space clean and orderly.

Who it is right for

Families choosing to care for a loved one at home

1 in 4

By 2030, around 1 in 4 Singapore citizens will be aged 65 or older, according to the National Population and Talent Division. More families are choosing to keep elderly parents at home rather than in a facility, and a caring, capable helper is often what makes that possible.

An eldercare helper is right for you if your parent or grandparent needs daily support but not round-the-clock clinical care, if you want a familiar face who can build a real relationship with your loved one, or if you are juggling work and caregiving and need dependable help you can trust. If your loved one is already being cared for by a helper here, a transfer helper can often step in sooner.

Why families choose JazHelpers

We match for temperament, not just a CV

Caring for an elderly person is as much about patience and warmth as it is about skill. A helper can have years of experience and still be the wrong fit if she is not gentle and calm under pressure. So we look past the biodata, and we talk to you and to the helper before we ever put the two together.

Matched for temperament

We learn your loved one's personality, routine and needs, then find a helper who genuinely fits, not just whoever is free.

Real elderly-care experience

Every helper we place for eldercare has genuine caregiving experience and the patient temperament the work demands.

Honest, ongoing support

We brief you honestly on each candidate and stay reachable after she starts. If something is not working, we help you put it right.

The honest part

When a helper is the right answer, and when she is not

This is where we differ from most agencies. An eldercare helper can give wonderful daily care, but she is not a trained nurse. She can remind and assist with medication, support mobility and provide companionship, yet she does not provide clinical medical treatment.

Many of our helpers have cared for seniors with early to moderate dementia and can offer patient, structured daily support. For advanced dementia, tube feeding or complex medical needs, we will tell you honestly if specialised nursing care would serve your loved one better, even if that means a placement is not right for us. We would rather give you the truth than make a match that lets your family down.

The process and timeline

How hiring an eldercare helper works

1

We understand your loved one

A conversation about your parent's needs, mobility, any conditions, daily routine, diet and the languages spoken at home.

2

We shortlist the right helpers

We put forward biodata of helpers with genuine elderly-care experience and the temperament to match your household.

3

You interview and choose

You meet the shortlisted helpers and pick the one who feels right for your family. No pressure to settle.

4

We handle the paperwork

We guide you through the Work Permit, insurance, security bond and medical examination so nothing is missed.

5

She settles in, and we stay close

Your helper arrives, completes her orientation, and we check in after placement to make sure the care is working.

A transfer helper already in Singapore can often start within about one to three weeks. Hiring from overseas usually takes longer, as it depends on training and Work Permit processing. We give you a realistic timeline for your situation up front.

The cost, clearly

What eldercare help costs, with no surprises

Many eldercare families pay a lower levy

S$60S$300

If you live with a Singapore Citizen parent or grandparent aged 67 or older, your household may qualify for the concessionary Foreign Domestic Worker levy of S$60 a month, instead of the standard S$300. You can check who qualifies on the Ministry of Manpower levy concession page.

Beyond the levy there is the helper's salary, a S$5,000 security bond for a non-Malaysian helper, insurance and a medical examination. For the full picture in plain language, see our guide to the cost of hiring a helper. Our own fee depends on your situation, so we talk it through with you directly, with no hidden fees.

"With elderly care, trust is everything. We would rather take the time to find a helper your parent genuinely warms to than rush a placement that does not last."

Common questions

Eldercare helpers: your questions answered

QWhat does an eldercare helper do?+
An eldercare helper supports an elderly person at home with daily living. This typically includes help with mobility and transfers, personal care such as bathing and dressing, preparing meals that suit dietary needs, reminding and assisting with medication on the doctor's schedule, companionship, light housekeeping and accompanying your loved one to appointments. The exact duties depend on your family's needs, which we discuss with you before matching.
QIs an eldercare helper the same as a nurse?+
No. An eldercare helper provides caring daily support, but she is not a trained nurse and does not give clinical medical treatment. For most families this daily help is exactly what is needed to let a loved one age comfortably at home. If your loved one needs clinical or round-the-clock medical care, we will tell you honestly that specialised nursing may be the better option.
QCan an eldercare helper care for someone with dementia?+
Many of our helpers have cared for seniors with early to moderate dementia and can provide patient, structured daily support and a calm, familiar presence. For advanced dementia or complex needs, we will be honest with you about whether a helper is enough or whether specialised care would serve your loved one better.
QCan my helper give my parent their medication?+
Your helper can remind your parent to take medication and help with the daily routine your doctor has set, such as having the right doses ready at the right times. She follows your doctor's instructions and does not make medical decisions or provide treatment. For anything clinical, your doctor or a nurse remains in charge.
QDo I qualify for a lower levy if I hire a helper to care for my elderly parent?+
You may. If you live with a Singapore Citizen parent or grandparent aged 67 or older who meets the criteria, your household can qualify for the concessionary Foreign Domestic Worker levy of S$60 a month instead of S$300. The Ministry of Manpower sets the rules, and we can help you understand whether your household qualifies.
QHow do you match an eldercare helper to my family?+
We start by understanding your loved one's needs, routine, any conditions and the languages spoken at home, then we look for helpers with real elderly-care experience and the right temperament, patient, gentle and calm. We brief you honestly on each candidate so you can interview and choose the one who feels right, rather than settling for whoever is available.
QHow long does it take to hire an eldercare helper?+
It depends on whether you choose a transfer helper already in Singapore or hire from overseas. A transfer helper can often start within about one to three weeks, while an overseas hire usually takes longer due to training and Work Permit processing. We give you a realistic timeline for your situation at the start.
QWhat if the helper is not the right fit for my parent?+
We do our best to get the match right the first time, but if it is not working we help you put it right rather than leaving you to manage alone. We will talk through what is happening and, where needed, support you through a replacement within the terms we have agreed. Our support does not end once your helper starts.
